Culture of Life focus: Travail of Migrants and Human Trafficking
Prayers intentions:
- For migrants in our midst, that we would see Jesus in each one, a brother or sister for whom He died, a member of our own family with inalienable dignity and rights.
- For the development of a legal system for orderly migration that protects unaccompanied minors from human trafficking, that eliminates the incentives for exploiting migrants and for using migration as a cover for criminal enterprises, that properly accounts for the economic impact of migration on wages and the social/cultural impact on communities.
- For agreements with developing nations, especially in Central and South America, which foster economic growth, freedom, respect for human dignity, and peace in those countries, thereby easing the pressure of economic migration.
- For migrants all over the world, especially those from the Middle East and Africa who face dangers on the Mediterranean Sea, and in the slave markets of Libya.
For reflection: what choices can we make in solidarity with those whose lives are threatened as they migrate in search of a better life? How can we effectively respond to human trafficking, and to the crime that accompanies mass migration?
